Most pilots are familiar with EAA’s annual AirVenture fly-in at Oshkosh Wisconsin, the largest pilot gathering in the world. But what compels enthusiasts to travel vast distances to attend this event?

Sure, AirVenture offers airshows and seminars and exotic aircraft, and all the latest airplanes and gadgets any aviator could wish for. But would it be the same attraction if we could just walk across town and enter through the gate? I think not.

Oshkosh is about the journey to get there as much as it is about the fly-in itself. And not just the physical journey, but the emotional one…
